oh what a world

Dude. Seriously.

Carlin quotes

The Rude Pundit posted a quote by George Carlin I had never seen before (because I don’t read Playboy), but it’s a really good one:

“There are two ways to think about this existence we have. One of them is that it’s Wednesday and it’s three fifteen and we’re talking here in my home, and at four o’clock I have to leave for another meeting. Now, that’s a reality. But there’s another reality.

We’re in the solar system of a second-rate star, three quarters of the way out on a spiral arm of an average galaxy in a thing called the Local Group. And ours is only one of billions of galaxies, each of which has billions of stars. Some star systems are binary, and there could be a planet that revolves around a center of gravity between two binary stars. So you’d have two sunrises and two sunsets every day. One could be a red giant, the other a white dwarf; two different-sized, -shaped, and -colored suns in the sky. And there might be other planets and comets.

In other words, fuck Wednesday, fuck three fifteen, fuck four o’clock, fuck the United States, fuck the earth. It’s all temporal bullshit. I like thinking about being out there and not thinking about the corporate structure, not worrying about freedom, and not worrying about guns. I chose a life of ideas. That entertains me. That nourishes me.”

Another one I saw in Mother Jones today, from an older interview:

Q: Is there anyone or anything you like?

A: I love individuals. I think people are terrific as I meet and get to know them. I like imagination. I like the freedom that this society manages to parcel out to us in the midst of the rest of what they do to you. I also like thinking about the fact that the atoms in me are the same atoms that are in all the rest of the universe, and that every one of those atoms came from the middle of a star. In other words, it’s only me out there.

Lastly, over at HuffPo, Carlin told us what he wants his tombstone to say:

I’m thinking something along the lines of, “Jeez, he was just here a minute ago.”

How true!

George Carlin, dead?

I can’t believe it. It’s something I knew was coming but I never wanted it to. He was a fucking fantastic guy.

It’s such a strange time for it to happen. His concert “… Again!” was on HBO last week, I’ve been listening to his “When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops?” CDs … he was alive then.

[Edit: Wait, I never pour my heart out on this blog. Removed… ]

I’m going back home to stay for a while (family stuff) and for some reason I’m really feeling old. Recalling all the bad choices and decisions I made.

I just feel aged and worn out.

Not gone, yet.

Well, somehow, I’m back. I was so close to moving domains and starting over fresh at some other host. But ten days after renewing my account … ahem …
